WASHINGTON (July 11, 2016) – The Urban Land Institute (ULI), a global research and education institute dedicated to responsible land use and creating thriving, sustainable communities, has appointed Stephanie S. Wasser as executive vice president of member networks for the Americas.
In her new role, Wasser will oversee the strategic and programmatic functions of the Institute’s two member networks in the Americas region, numbering over 33,000 ULI members: District Councils and Product Councils. As part of the executive team, she will actively work with member and staff resources, initiatives, and opportunities to foster sharing of industry best practices in the Americas, as well as globally. Specifically, Wasser will work with ULI leadership on the development, communication and implementation of ULI’s strategic vision for District Councils and Product Councils in addition to cultivating relationships with private, public, and academic leaders within the land use industry.
ULI’s District Council program serves 56 North American communities by providing avenues for active dialogues between and among private industry, non-profit institutions, and public agencies to help provide solutions to local and regional issues. District Councils facilitate these relationships by offering local educational forums and events, community outreach programs and providing industry expertise to community leaders.
While District Councils provide local support for ULI membership, the Institute’s Product Council system serves members at the national or regional level. Currently there are approximately 2,600 high-level members participating in more than 50 Product Councils focused on specific property sectors, product types, and land use issues. Each Product Council meets for a full day of its own programming at the ULI Fall and Spring Meetings, and may work on research or group projects throughout the year relating to their area of focus and expertise.
“Stephanie has a proven track record of translating vision and strategy into an execution that produces results,” said ULI’s Global Chief Executive Officer Patrick L. Phillips. “She very capably bridges the networks, and her expertise, leadership, and commitment will serve ULI well as we enter the next chapter of our global evolution.”
Prior to her new appointment, Wasser served in multiple capacities on ULI’s leadership team. Her previous roles with the Institute include having worked as the Senior Vice President of Councils as well as the Executive Director of the Boston/New England District Council. Before joining ULI staff, Wasser served as the Regional Vice President of Archstone-Smith, a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT), and as Vice President and Director of Real Estate Development for the Corcoran Jennison Companies. Wasser was also Vice President of Development at the Grossman Companies.
“This is an exciting opportunity to facilitate collaboration between, and growth among our two member networks,” said Wasser. “I look forward to fostering the exchange of industry best practices and knowledge between these two groups while increasing the return on investment for members as they see the benefits of an expanded network.”
