ULI Northwest – Portland: WLI Professional Development Series
In 2018, ULI Oregon/Southwest Washington announced plans to launch a local Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI). With a membership of 340 overall including 35% women, the District Council felt it was an ideal time for ULI Oregon/Southwest Washington to add this important program for its members.
The WLI kicked off by conducting an industry survey of its female members. Through this survey, WLI identified three focus areas for its first initiatives: professional development, networking, and mentorship. Based on the survey results and continued conversations, the professional development committee identified training in negotiation and leadership skills as a key focus area of interest among its female ULI members. Supported by its District Council, the professional development committee is working to put together a robust training series for a cohort of approximately 30 women that will provide in-depth, professionally led and moderated, leadership-oriented training in how to be an effective negotiator and strong industry leader.
