WASHINGTON (April 20, 2010) –The Urban Land Institute (ULI), a global research and education institute dedicated to responsible land use, will kick off a year-long celebration of its 75th anniversary at ULI LIVE! — the institute’s 2011 Fall Meeting and Urban Land Expo, set for the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles October 25-28.

ULI LIVE! presents a unique opportunity for strategic sponsors to showcase their businesses and products to the world’s most influential real estate professionals. As the largest of the institute’s events, the annual ULI Fall Meeting and Urban Land Expo routinely draws more than 6,000 members and guests, including internationally renowned land use experts representing all land use disciplines. The landmark anniversary of ULI and the special programming being planned to mark the occasion will add significantly to what is already a highly popular meeting among both seasoned industry professionals and those starting their real estate careers.

Los Angeles last hosted ULI’s Fall Meeting and Urban Land Expo in 2005. Since then, this vibrant metropolis has seen a dramatic resurgence. New to the downtown skyline is the $2.5 billion, four-million-square-foot LA LIVE! entertainment complex, one of only five global winners of ULI’s 2010 Awards for Excellence. Anchored by the Staples Center and Nokia Theatre, LA LIVE! boasts a dozen new high-end hotels and chic restaurants and bars, all contributing to a trendy, artsy scene. ULI LIVE! will draw from this energy, transforming the institute’s annual fall meeting into a series of lively experiences that showcase the heartbeat of Los Angeles and the city’s connection to the arts. Starting with an entertainment-packed, dynamic opening night reception on the streets adjacent to LA LIVE!, the fall meeting will be highlighted with sessions and networking events in a wide variety of venues. Every element of ULI LIVE! will focus on encouraging ULI’s acclaimed and aspiring leaders to absorb the atmosphere of downtown Los Angeles and explore the potential for building on its forward-thinking vision.

The ULI Local Arrangements Committee, which is charged with maximizing the visibility of the Southern California real estate market to meeting attendees, is being chaired by ULI Governors Michael L. Matkins, senior partner, Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory Natsis LLP in Los Angeles; and John S. Hagestad, managing director, Sares Regis Group in Irvine. The committee also leads the ULI’s fundraising efforts for the meeting.

“So much has happened in downtown Los Angeles since the last ULI Fall Meeting took place in the city,” Hagestad said. “We look forward to taking advantage of the energy that has built up around LA LIVE and making it a centerpiece for the meeting. ULI members who have not been here since the last meeting here are in for an incredibly exciting experience.”

According to ULI Chief Executive Officer Patrick L. Phillips, the kickoff celebration of ULI’s 75th anniversary at ULI LIVE! will focus as much on looking forward as it will commemorate what the institute has achieved. “Dramatic changes related to demographics, the economy and the environment are necessitating a major overhaul in what and where we build, and will continue to do so in the decades ahead,” Phillips said. “The ideas, insights and trends shared at ULI’s fall meeting will help set the stage for what ULI has yet to accomplish.”
