About CityWay
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Developer: Buckingham Companies
Designer: Oz Architecture, et al
Size: 12 acres
CityWay is a progressive and innovative redevelopment of a significantly underutilized site in the heart of downtown Indianapolis featuring a world-class business hotel, an urban flagship YMCA fitness facility, 250 luxury urban apartments, and 60,000 square feet of restaurants, office and retail shops. Developed by Buckingham Companies, CityWay also includes two parking structures, significant street and infrastructure improvements, new urban green areas and a public art component that serves as a much-needed link between neighborhoods and businesses on the city’s near south side and the core of downtown.
Embracing sustainability as a core value in the development, design, and operation of CityWay’s facilities, The Alexander Hotel received receiving LEED Silver certification in May 2014. In addition, CityWay included a robust art program as a core component to the public space and hotel design. The developer engaged the Indianpolis Museum of Art to formally curate the art program. This innovative collaboration produced works of art from over 40 international contemporary artists, including 14 site specific commissioned pieces. The development was conceived to be respectful of the history of Indianapolis while establishing its own specific neighborhood identity.
