During the month of February, ULI joins the nation in commemorating Black History Month. We invite you to learn more about the history of this annual celebration and achievements of Black Americans.
We celebrate the many contributions of our Black members, partners, and staff to our ULI community and broader society. As we mark Black History month, we are reminded of our shared responsibility and commitment to pursue unrelenting efforts to shape the built environment toward diverse, equitable, inclusive communities, and engaging in and leading efforts to advance racial justice and equitable communities within the commercial real estate industry in the Americas and beyond.
In honor of this month, we would also like to highlight a piece published in Urban Land titled, Black History Month: Celebrating the History of African Americans in Commercial Real Estate. Spanning various historical periods, this piece explores the historical contributions of African Americans in the real estate industry. Despite facing obstacles such as bondage, segregation, and racism, Black Americans have played significant roles as craftspeople, financiers, designers, builders, and developers in shaping the built environment of the United States.
In the coming weeks, we will continue to amplify the stories and achievements of ULI’s Black members and projects with notable impact on the Black community.
