The ULI Learning course Prioritizing Parks and Open Spaces explores the value that parks create and builds the case for prioritizing park development, funding, and operations. Through multiple case studies, students will learn from real estate developers, public sector park professionals, and nonprofit organizations about the role of parks in supporting real estate and economic development, health and social equity, and urban resilience.

Course participants will be able to-

• Understand the role of parks as critical community infrastructure, including how they can:
  • Drive economic development, real estate value, and ROI;
  • Support resident health, wellbeing, and social equity; and
  • Advance community resilience and sustainability.

• Identify and recognize the roles of various stakeholders—including representatives from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors and local residents—in creating and sustaining high-quality parks and equitable park access.
• Name replicable park projects and initiatives from across the U.S. that demonstrate specific contributions to economic development, real estate value, resilience, sustainability, equity, and resident health and wellbeing.
