Rafael is a multidisciplinary professional by intent because he believes the most impactful decisions are bound by collective action and happen at the intersections of different perspectives and disciplines.
Growing up in the Midwest, his experience with urban decay fuels a passion to revitalize distressed communities and to find opportunities in how we enable thriving cultures of social and economic wellbeing. From pop-up events in the public realm to largescale master plans, Rafael connects the art and science of urban development and provides leadership and guidance on meaningful place-based solutions.
Rafael has worked on award-winning projects recognized by APA, AIA, ASLA, ULI,
and SCUP. He has led complex teams that broke down physical barriers, connected
residents with community services, reimagined a vacant site as a vibrant and
functional campus in an educational desert, and de-stigmatized mental health care facilities that serve as a public amenity
Rafael received his Master of Urban Planning and Master of Landscape Architecture degrees from the University of Washington – College of Built Environments in Seattle.
