Launched in 2010, the DC bike share program, Capital Bikeshare, with an initial upstart involving some 1,100 bicycles at 100 stations located throughout the District of Columbia and parts of Arlington County, Virginia. By the end of 2011, Capital Bikeshare announced it had reached 18,000 members and one million rides in its first year of operation, exceeding all expectations. Additionally, the District Department of Transportation announced that it would install new stations – as well as extend the program to surrounding communities like Rockville, MD and Alexandria, VA – and expand capacity in existing stations by the summer of 2012.

On March 26, 2012, please join us for a presentation of how this program has grown beyond early expectations and, as the largest public bike sharing system in the United States, impacted the way people move within the urban core.
