With the support of an Urban Innovation Grant, ULI Washington facilitated this community design charrette in December 2013 to engage residents of Washington, D.C., in the transformation of the old 11th Street Bridge into the District’s first Health Hub.
The District government and the Building Bridges Across the River nonprofit have teamed up to transform the aging bridge into an elevated park that provides a new venue for healthy recreation, environmental education and the arts.
In its grant application, ULI Washington proposed to facilitate design charrettes with the community to engage them in the design and function of the 11th Street Bridge Park. The outcomes of the charrettes will be used to inform the next phase of the project, a nationwide design competition to create the park.
