Why Tour FIRST?

Located on a prominent site near the Neuilly Bridge, Tour FIRST stands as a striking symbol to La Défense. KPF’s design, selected as the winning entry in an international competition, proposed a complete refurbishment of the 1970s tower designed by Pierre Dufau, which at 40 storeys and 152m tall, was one of France’s first skyscrapers. Originally conceived as three identical wings around a central core, the refurbished tower retains the integrity of the original whilst providing a modern interpretation of the concept and vastly improving the environmental performance and internal conditions and circulation. The new tower is a striking addition to the La Défense skyline but also serves to integrate Tour FIRST into the surrounding dense urban context improving the quality and accessibility of public areas, strengthening the connection between the building and the Grande Esplanade, located at the heart of La Défense, and enabling access to the public space to the rear, Place des Saisons, also in the process of major refurbishment.
