ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance (ULI Greenprint) is a research organization focused on climate mitigation and makes the business case for green buildings by tying carbon reductions to increased asset value. ULI Greenprint also includes technical assistance through the ULI Net Zero Imperative (NZI). NZI was launched in July 2021 to benefit, support, and advance the sustainability mission of ULI through the arrangement and management of technical assistance panels (TAPs) designed to help owners, cities, and other relevant constituents reduce or eliminate carbon emissions associated with buildings, communities, and cities.

The goal of the effort is to provide concrete ideas and strategies to the beneficiaries of the TAPs and the general public to eliminate carbon emissions from the built environment, via not only TAP reports but also NZI-inspired resources for the real estate industry broadly. The Net Zero Imperative also fosters a long-term global cohort of participants to collaborate over time and learn from each other as they work to implement the recommendations from the panels. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Urban Land Institute’s Greenprint Center for Building Performance (Greenprint) is seeking a Senior Sustainability Associate to support the implementation of key programs and coordinate activities across the center’s Greenprint Community of Practice and Net Zero Imperative programs. This position will report to the Senior Director, Greenprint.

This is a full-time, hybrid, exempt position, located in Washington, DC.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Greenprint Community of Practice Support (50%)

• Serve as a contact for ULI Greenprint real estate members in daily program activities, including onboarding new members, responding to program questions, providing technical assistance, and connecting members to relevant resources or members.
• Plan and support regular virtual and in-person ESG discussion groups for members on topics ranging from renewable energy to embodied carbon to climate risk analytics. This may include organizing forums; developing event programs; identifying speakers and participants; developing supporting materials; and implementing follow-up actions.
• Enable the Greenprint program to grow while delivering consistent value to its members by enhancing the program’s management tools such as trackers and standard operating procedures. Provide program management support for items like the monthly newsletter, data tracking and reporting, and member communications.
• Support the Senior Director in meetings with interested organizations to explain the program’s benefits and recruit them as new Greenprint members.

Net Zero Imperative Support 50%

• Support the implementation of Net Zero Imperative climate mitigation advisory activities, workshops, and convenings by researching potential expert TAP panelists, facilitating discussions, and advising the development of panel recommendation presentations and summary reports.
• Assist in keeping program timeline up-to-date and support toward key milestones in each city.
• Leverage net zero and green building knowledge to advise on TAP scopes and panelists and internal ULI experts.
• Aid in the recruitment and selection of each year’s NZI cohort participants.
• Help facilitate the NZI monthly Global Cohort convenings for long-term engagement of participants across the cities and provide and source ad-hoc technical assistance needs, including taking notes, answering participant questions, etc.
• Support monitoring and evaluation of the NZI program to collect impact metrics and continuously improve the program.
• Limited administrative responsibilities, such as printing program materials, submitting invoices for payment, tracking budgets, scheduling meetings, and the like.

EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, real estate, environmental studies, public policy, public administration, and/or a related field in the social sciences preferred, or equivalent experience.
• At least two years of related experience.
• Interest or experience with sustainability, climate change, green buildings, urban planning, real estate, or related topics.
• A strategic thinker, problem solver, and excellent communicator.
• Ability to build relationships and engage with ULI members and partners at all levels of an organization (e.g. facilitation, building consensus, keeping members active in program activities)
• Able to maintain a keen attention to details, timelines, and various moving project pieces.
• A collaborative attitude and positive approach to teamwork.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Travel within the United States as required. A reasonable expectation would be three trips a year, each with a duration of two to three days.
