Sonia Deal graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1999 with her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. In 2007, she complete her Master’s of Science in Nursing, with a specialization in Healthcare and Nursing Administration.
As Director of Practice Transformation at Affinia Healthcare, Sonia Deal is working to revolutionize the delivery of healthcare in St. Louis. A registered nurse with twenty plus years of military service, Sonia is leading the charge to transform primary care and improve health outcomes of the underserved. At Affinia, her responsibilities include: supervision of the chronic disease department, coordination of Health Home initiatives, oversight of managed care plans, patient navigators, community health workers, and the maternal child department. All of these initiatives work to provide higher quality healthcare and lower healthcare costs.
Prior to assuming her current position, Sonia served as Director of Health Center Operations. She maintained oversight of daily operations for two federally qualified health centers. She implemented Affinia Healthcare’s urgent care facility, which is accredited and certified through the Urgent Care Association of America. The facility is the first urgent care in St. Louis to achieve both certification and accreditation. As a Nurse Corp Captain in the United States Army, Sonia coordinated and managed the care of wounded soldiers and their families. As a Certified Master Resilience Trainer, she taught soldiers critical skills to cope with life after war and active duty.
Sonia is dedicated to sharing her gifts with the community. She participates in health fairs sponsored by the American Diabetes Association and Oasis. She teaches diabetic education in her community. She also volunteers to teach self-esteem classes to at-risk youth at local St. Louis community centers.
Sonia sits on the St. Louis chapter of the American Diabetes Association’s Community Engagement Council. She is on the committee for the Gateway Wellness Network. She is also on the Finance committee for the Missouri League for Nursing.
