She spent two years volunteering in Latin America where she acquired Spanish as a second language, and was introduced to the rigors of public policy, while experientially learning about the factors behind varying levels of socio-economic development, underdevelopment, and displacement. This undergirds her dedication to regional development and volunteerism as a core tenet of personal and professional growth.
