HONG KONG (June 28, 2016) – Dr. Ngee Huat Seek, chairman of Global Logistic Properties Limited and former president of GIC Real Estate Pte. Ltd., has been named chairman of the Asia Pacific region for the Urban Land Institute (ULI), an interdisciplinary research and education institute with more than 38,000 members dedicated to leadership in real estate and land use and creating thriving communities worldwide.
Seek, a pioneering global real estate investor and widely renowned real estate industry leader, will serve a two-year term in this position from July 1, 2016. He is a member of the board of directors at Brookfield Asset Management Inc., Canada and Chongbang Holdings (International) Ltd.; and a senior advisor to Frasers Centrepoint Ltd. He is also chairman of the Institute of Real Estate Studies at the National University of Singapore, where he serves as a Practice Professor of real estate. He holds a PhD degree in urban research from Australian National University.
The ULI Asia Pacific chairmanship is part of the Institute’s global evolution initiative, which is being implemented to enable ULI to more effectively serve and connect its membership worldwide. The ULI Asia Pacific region encompasses all countries in Asia and the Pacific including China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia, New Zealand and ASEAN. The initiative involves the creation of a new ULI global governance structure, overseen by ULI Global Chairman Randall K. Rowe, which includes chairman positions for each of the regions in which ULI currently has a presence – Asia Pacific; the Americas; and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
According to Rowe, the global evolution initiative will foster more engagement with ULI members in diverse markets around the world. “ULI’s evolution as a global organization relies on our ability to improve local land use decisions on a global level,” he said. “To do this, we must ensure that what we are delivering as an institute helps our members advance ULI’s mission in a way that is tailored to the specifics of very different markets and regions. Dr. Seek is an excellent choice to guide our work in Asia Pacific, and we are thrilled to have him in this leadership role,” he said. “He has a solid understanding of what is needed to make ULI’s work more relevant and more impactful in this region, which will help keep the institute strong in the decades ahead.”
“Dr. Seek’s vast industry expertise adds considerably to ULI’s intellectual capital,” said ULI Global Chief Executive Officer Patrick L. Phillips. “His knowledge and leadership skills will help ULI continue to evolve into a global organization that is responsive to members with different needs and interests, but who are united in creating thriving, sustainable communities.”
“I’m delighted to be serving as ULI’s Asia Pacific chairman, and to be part of this wonderful organization,” Seek said. “I look forward to working with ULI’s dedicated Asia Pacific members as we continue ULI’s outstanding work in our region.”
In addition to the ULI Asia Pacific chairman position, the global evolution initiative includes an advisory board and executive committee for the Asia Pacific region, as well as an existing staff executive position, ULI Asia Pacific CEO, which is held by John Fitzgerald. “I am excited to work with Dr. Seek during his term as ULI Asia Pacific chairman,” Fitzgerald said. “He brings extensive expertise, an amazing network, and a global perspective that will benefit our members and ULI in Asia Pacific.”
