Sara Cox, 2018 Health Leader

Sara Cox is a Healthy Development Coordinator at the Tennessee Department of Health. She works to increase healthier life choices in the rural and suburban communities surrounding Nashville. As a liaison between elected officials and county health departments, she advocates for healthy built environments and adding capacity to community health initiatives. Sara sincerely believes that the design of our communities directly impacts quality of health, and that commitment to designing and building healthier options is an opportunity to address many of the health crises in our country today.
Prior to joining TDH, Sara worked for a regional nonprofit which focused on land use, transportation, and open space conservation issues.
Sara earned her Master of City and Regional Planning from the University of Memphis and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee.
In her free time, Sara enjoys working on her house, reading, running, and traveling. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, Brendan, and blue heeler puppy, Turbo.
