Undergraduate Program Pilot Conclusion and Update
February 2022 marked the beginning of the Undergraduate Pilot Program for ULI’s University Connections Initiative.
The fifteenth in the series of Building Healthy Places Forums was held in conjunction with ULI’s Fall Meeting in Dallas and explored opportunities to build with nature, despite growing threats posed by wildfires, extreme heat, and a changing climate.
This forum, generously supported by ULI Foundation Governor Randall Lewis, brought together leaders in health, wellness, and real estate to discuss what they are doing, planning, and observing in the field. The forum was a content-heavy, interactive discussion and exchange.
The forum was organized in collaboration with ULI member leaders and focused on sharing information about Texas-based projects at the intersection of health and the built environment and applying lessons from these projects to the work of forum participants.

Forum Highlights
- Dr. Paul Hessburg (keynote), research landscape ecologist with the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station (PNWRS) where he leads research on management of forest landscapes and impacts on human settlement.
- Case Study Tour: Trinity River Audubon Center. This showcase of sustainability and gateway to the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest, the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States was designed by 2006 AIA Gold Medalist architect Antoine Predock. The venue not only promotes health, but repairs some of the site’s pre-existing environmental problems.
