For Students

Get on the right path toward a career in commercial real estate by complementing your courses and education with meaningful networking experiences, access to helpful resources, and internship opportunities.


Undergraduate Students

  • Any undergraduate student can sign up for a free ULI account, without becoming a member, to receive invitations to events and updates on research reports and other content from ULI. Visit the New Account page to create a login and profile and select the topics that interest you.
    • Based on the address you provide in your profile, ULI will assign you to a District Council so that you can receive information about local events, webinars, and educational offerings.
    • Nonmembers can attend most ULI events, however, events are free or discounted for students who are ULI members.
  • ULI Explore and Connect for Students – ULI offers virtual programming for undergraduate students to introduce them to ULI and ULI Student Membership at the local, national, and global levels, connect them to the global network of leaders who are ULI members and inspire them to become leaders throughout their careers.
  • ULI Student Membership – ULI Student Membership is available at 75% off the regular Associate Member rate. Visit org/join to become a member.
    • Members can access the ULI Member Directory; ULI Navigator; ULI Knowledge Finder; ULI Case Studies; Urban Land magazine; ULI Bookstore discounts; local and national events; and eligibility for local leadership roles, among other benefits.
    • Membership fees can be billed monthly ($11/month).
  • ULI Spring Meeting and ULI Fall Meeting – Leverage valuable networking and education opportunities at the premier real estate and land use convenings.
    • ULI Spring Meeting convenes in person in Toronto, Ontario, May 16-18, 2023. Students benefit from discounted rates and a dedicated student-specific education track.
  • YLG Americas – The Young Leaders Group (YLG) network creates opportunities for young professionals under the age of 35 to develop skills and build relationships that will help advance their careers and foster an understanding of thoughtful develop­ment practices. Engage in YLG locally or nationally via the YLG Americas Committee and Student Subcommittee.
  • Foundations Internship Program: REITs and Commercial Real Estate– This program is a collaboration of Nareit, ULI, and Fannie Mae’s Future Housing Leaders (FHL) Program that provides education, ULI Foundations of Real Estate Certificate (FoRE), training, a paid internship, and a path to employment at real estate investment trusts or commercial real estate companies for a select number of college students from diverse backgrounds who participate in the FHL Program.
  • ULI Etkin Scholars – Through this program, designated ULI District Councils provide a cohort of graduate and undergraduate students with ULI memberships, offer Scholar-specific programming, and introduce Scholars to the resources available through ULI membership. Applications open in early fall each year.
  • ULI Advisory Services Students and Young Leaders Program – The ULI Advisory Services Program (ASP) is excited to offer an opportunity for students and young leaders to engage in one of ULI’s hallmark programs that enables the Institute to fulfill its mission  real-time.  Applications are accepted year-round to engage with the program in the following ways: panel internship, panel externship, or panel writer.

  • ULI Hines Student Competition – Participate in this well-loved and well-known educational program, entering its 20th year, with a $50,000 prize. Students form multidisciplinary teams and devise development programs for a real, large-scale site in a North American city.
  • ULI/Randall Lewis Health Mentorship Program – Deepen your understanding of how you can advance health through the built environment. The ULI/Randall Lewis Health Mentorship program pairs exceptional graduate students with ULI members that have established careers focusing on health and the land use industry. Applications for Cohort 6 will open in December of 2022.
  • ULI Etkin Scholars – Through this program, designated ULI District Councils provides a cohort of graduate and undergraduate students with ULI memberships, offers Scholar-specific programming, and introduces Scholars to the resources available through ULI membership. Applications open in early fall each year.
  • ULI Graduate Student Fellowship – Apply to this two-year program to receive a dedicated mentor and access to ULI membership, events and educational activities—at a time when these experiences can have an indelible impact on your career. This competitive program is offered in conjunction with ULI’s Product Councils for students at Cornell, UC Berkeley, UC Boulder, and the University of Pennsylvania. Applications open March to May each year. Apply through the relevant school and ULI District Council:
    • Cornell (ULI New York)
    • UC Berkeley (ULI San Francisco)
    • UC Boulder (ULI Colorado)
    • University of Pennsylvania (ULI Philadelphia)
