Opened in 1974 along Orchard Road, Singapore’s main shopping belt, Plaza Singapura is a well-established shopping mall that has been reinvigorated following the completion of extensive renovation and extension in 2012. The enlarged Plaza Singapura now has 28 percent more net lettable area and offers 329 brands, 89 more than before. It is seamlessly connected to the retail podium of the Atrium@Orchard via internal walkways at levels 1, 3, and 4.
Drawing inspiration from the historic Stamford Canal that runs along Orchard Road, the mall’s new facade is adorned with elegantly flowing ribbons and twinkling lights. Spanning 170 meters (558 ft), Plaza Singapura’s facade is one of the longest frontages along Orchard Road. Its remodeled front plaza has also become the stage for many public events. Sitting above the busy Dhoby Ghaut subway interchange station, which serves three subway lines, the revamped mall has enhanced pedestrian connectivity and increased the provision of public spaces for the enjoyment of shoppers. In addition, the project has been recognized for its environmentally friendly design for the developer’s use of Singapore Green Label Scheme (SGLS)–certified products.
