Fall Meeting in Los Angeles Features Health
ULI’s Fall Meeting in Los Angeles last month included several programs focused on the intersections between health, land use, and real estate. Highlights included:
- Randall Lewis/ULI Building Healthy Places Interest Forum convened in the vibrant LA community of Pacoima. The forum focused on the Van Nuys Boulevard Healthy Corridors effort and included a presentation by healthy food social entrepreneur Sam Polk, a panel on the economic case for healthy places, and other content. - Presentation by ULI Senior Visiting Fellow Calvin Gladney on social equity, and release of ULI’s new book on equitable cities.
- Introductory Forum for the ULI Health Leaders Network. Learn more.
- Breakfast program on Creative Placemaking with ULI’s Juanita Hardy and Smart Growth America’s Ben Stone. Learn more.
- Pop Up Cafés about the 10 Minute Walk Campaign and the rise of healthy building certifications.
Also at Fall Meeting, the Building Healthy Places Initiative released our latest healthy housing case study. The New Genesis Apartments housing project in Los Angeles provides stable, supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness. Learn more.
Opportunity to Share Expertise on Parks and Recreation
The National Recreation and Parks Association, ULI’s Partner on the 10 Minute Walk (to a Park) Campaign, has issued a call for proposals for the 2018 NRPA Annual Conference to be held on September 25-26 in Indianapolis. Experts from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for sessions or presentations before Friday, December 1, 2017. Learn more.
