MILANEO stands for urban quarter development, high class architecture, a multifunctional complex with a mix of shopping, working and living, great sustainability standards and not least a very successful development.
The MILANEO quarter – a new vibrant urban district with superior urban architecture and outstanding environmental standards – was realized on an abandoned area of the old freight train station. Located right next to the Library of the 21st Century on Mailänder Platz it is part of the new “Europaviertel” development in Stuttgart’s city center within walking distance of the main train station. The multifunctional complex is inspired by Italian flair and design. It was completed in autumn 2015 and serves as a motor and catalyst for the new district.
MILANEO is an architectural landmark with an open and spacious construction. Three individual blocks of buildings merge into a lively urban space that is connected via the bustling Mailänder Platz square and numerous alleys. Transparent bridges link the retail levels on the first floors. The modern shopping center presents its visitors the themed areas “nature”, “urban” and “modern”.
The whole quarter comprises 415 apartments, a hotel with approximately 8,500 m² and 165 rooms, a shopping center with some 200 stores on three retail levels with a total sales area of 43,000 m², food courts, restaurants, and service areas. Approximately 7,400 m² of floor space for offices, and an underground car park with 1,680 parking spaces supplement the urban quarter. The apartments, offices and the hotel – with spacious green roofs and terraces on top – are layered above the retail levels and create an oasis of calm with stunning views. A horizontally stratified shopping center with different layers of usage on top of the center is unique on this scale in Germany.
Sustainability ideas were integrated in the development process from the very beginning. The German Sustainable Building council (DGNB) awarded MILANEO with the Sustainability Certificate in Platinum. Sustainability aspects are not limited to the building equipment. The multifunctionality of the complex adds to the quality of the quarter.
With all its special characteristics MILANEO is a brilliant example of clever high quality city development.
