Leading must be different moving forward. In the fourth in a series of leadership conversations, a diverse panel of six of ULI’s Trustees will share their insights on the skills needed to thrive in the coming decade and beyond. Are they using new models? Who are they emulating? Who is best of class? How do they “course correct?” What will be the most important leadership skills? This highly interactive format will combine comments from the panel as well as significant audience interaction. In addition, the session will be recorded graphically for distribution to the participants.

Renowned author, clinical psychologist and coach, Bob Maurer has served as a consultant to Walt Disney Studios, the US Air Force, Canyon Ranch Health Spa, Costco, American Express, Four Seasons Hotels, PriceWatershouseCooper, Habitat for Humanity, and BP. Bob has appeared on ABC’s 20/20 in connection with his work on conflict resolution. His book on creativity and change, entitled, “One Small Step can Change Your Life” is now in fourteen languages. His work as a clinical psychologist has resulted in the development of an extensive series of programs designed to meet the challenges of building and sustaining excellence and wellbeing.

John Bucksbaum
In May 2011, John Bucksbaum, a ULI Trustee, Governor and major benefactor told the story of his challenging personal journey during the “Great Depression” at the Larson Leadership Summit. The Larson Leadership Initiative has asked John to share is incredible and moving story with a larger ULI audience at the Stan Ross Real Estate Trends Conference.

Led by a panel of ULI Trustees and industry experts, this highly interactive session will address how the most entrepreneurial firms are responding to leading in these challenging times—for example, by leveraging CEO succession planning as a means to improve the overall business, not merely prepare the organization for a leadership transition. Backed by a survey of nearly 250 real estate CEOs and numerous conversations with industry leaders, the panel will address the following questions: Who is the best of class? Who are my role models for managing, both within and outside the real estate industry? Is my organization a “Succession Leader” or a “Succession Laggard?”
