Ka Yan Lai is a postdoctoral fellow researching on environmental health at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) following her PhD study in urban planning & design at HKU and Master’s study in Architecture at the University of Edinburgh. Her research interest is mainly on the links between urban environments and public health. She has been leveraging on large-scale data from population health cohorts in Hong Kong and UK to study links between urban built environment design, density, green-blue spaces, air and light pollution with activity behaviour and health outcomes including physical activity, social interaction, mental health and cardio-vascular health. She has also been interested in the urban environmental determinants of COVID and related health implications of COVID-related lock downs.
