Juxtaposing modern and historic, Jing An Kerry Centre represents a new mixed-use development in the dynamic Jing An district in Shanghai. Now recognized as a signature landmark of the area, this multiuse complex features two towers, podium retail space, a hotel with 508 rooms, an event center, and office amenities. Establishing its presence on the Nanjing Xi Lu, the development integrates itself within the rich urban context of the city. The site caters to pedestrians, creating internal spaces that become public open space and paths for circulation.
The site plan for the development uses an architectural language that embodies the spatial and visual qualities of the city street experience. Through the use of open-air walkways and a glazed galleria, Jing An Kerry Centre evokes a sense of continuity with the surrounding Shanghai pedestrian scale. The vertical massing of the podium and towers reflects the same visual diversity developed in the site plan. The layering and stacking of building masses create a distinct design vocabulary, establishing a direct visual relationship with the skyline.
