The Urban Land Institute, located at 2001 L Street, NW, has paid internship opportunities for outstanding graduate and undergraduate students.
ULI’s Terwilliger Center for Housing envisions every U.S. community having the appropriate housing stock to meet the diverse local needs of households across the income spectrum.
To fulfill its mission to expand access to high-quality housing opportunities affordable to households at all income levels, particularly to those earning 120 percent of median income or less, the Terwilliger Center for Housing:
- Inspires industry support for and participation in the production and preservation of homes for moderate- and lower-income households (primarily those who do not qualify for government assistance);
- Highlights and socializes innovative and effective residential projects, strategies, development practices, and public policies;
- Supports ULI, member, and community efforts to produce substantially more homes for both rental and ownership; and
- Supports ULI, member, and community efforts to preserve homes affordable to households earning less than 120 percent of median income.
The center’s team conducts research, performs analysis, provides expert advice, and develops best-practice recommendations that reflect the residential land use and development priorities of ULI members in all residential product types, with special attention to workforce and affordable housing. Overview of Internship:
Intern(s) could participate in a range of activities, including:
- District Council Engagement:
- Interacting with district council staff around the country to identify areas of need/interest related to housing development.
- Assisting in marketing the center’s products and services to district councils.
- Partner/Ally Engagement:
- Supporting the center’s work with external organizations, including:
- National League of Cities Housing Task Force (enabling housing affordability in 18 cities); and
- Grounded Solutions Network (re: mixed-income/inclusionary housing).
- Supporting the center’s work with external organizations, including:
- Grants:
- Supporting the center’s grant-focused activities, including:
- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant (health and equity in the built environment);
- JPMorgan Chase (proposal development); and
- Kresge (proposal development).
- Supporting the center’s grant-focused activities, including:
- Research:
- Supporting the center’s research, including:
- Updating the 10 Principles of Housing Affordability;
- Completion and marketing/distribution of housing attainability report; and
- Development of workforce housing affordability index.
- Supporting the center’s research, including:
- Awards:
- Supporting the selection process for the Kemp and Larson housing awards.
Requirements:
Strong candidates will be undergraduate or graduate students in a related field. Candidates should have good project management and research capabilities. Strong written, oral, and verbal communication skills are a must.
Hours:
The ULI summer intern program will run from June 6 through August 7. Workweeks are 37.5 hours.
