WLI Women’s Entrepreneurs Program FAQs

What is the WLI Americas Entrepreneurs Program?

This program is designed to amplify and support women entrepreneurs in the real estate industry.  The mission is to help strengthen and further these companies as well as assist in addressing the persistent underinvestment and unconscious biases, or outright discrimination, that hinder the progress of women in entrepreneurship. The Program does this by providing personalized consulting and business advice to empower our members on their entrepreneurial journey.  Through the 10-month program, participants work to refine and articulate their goals and vision for growth, develop long-term strategies to scale their business(es) and increase revenue, grow as a leader, and create a network of support with each other and the broader ULI community.

Who should apply?
  1. You are a ULI member (Associate or Full).
  2. You are a woman who owns a business from the start in real estate development, investment, property management and/or professional services supporting real estate and development.
  3. You agree to the following commitments:
    1. Fully participate in the WLI Entrepreneurs Program for one year, starting in Spring 2025.
    2. Attend the ULI 2025 Spring and Fall Meetings.

      1. Denver, CO
        May 12-14
        Colorado Convention Center
      2. San Francisco, California
        November 4-6
        Moscone West Convention Center
  4. After completing the program, will volunteer for ULI during the following year, which may include supporting the WLI Entrepreneurs Program but can be selected by the participant with confirmation from the program leaders.
  5. You are willing to provide a succinct one-paragraph description of your business’s focus, including who your company serves and/or what your business is focused on achieving.
  6. You will submit a brief business/strategic plan showing projected business growth.
What considerations go into the selection criteria and process?

We seek the most promising women entrepreneurs in terms of business plan and goals. We base our evaluation of criteria on the totality of information available. No single factor is decisive. We consider each application holistically.

How long does the Entrepreneurs Program last?

The program is a 10-month program with an additional year commitment to giving back and volunteering with ULI and/or WLI.

What types of businesses do you select as winners?

The “type” of business is limited to women owned and founded businesses within the real estate development, investment, property management and/or professional services supporting real estate and development. In short, any types of businesses with people that participate in ULI.

What if I don’t have a Business Plan?

You must have a comprehensive (but brief) business plan to apply because your business must be in a place where you have been working through growing it and have a plan to show how you plan to grow it. Things to consider including in your business plan:

  1. Company Description
  2. Market Opportunity
  3. Products and Services
  4. Marketing and Sales
  5. Operations
  6. Financials
What if I have a Business Plan, but have not launched my business?

You must already be in operation to apply.

Is there an application fee?

No. Applying to the program is free.

How do I know that you’ve received my application?

Once we receive your application, we’ll send an email confirmation. This email contains information on the process. Be sure to check your spam if you don’t see the email within a short time.

What is the timeline for Application & Review?

November 1 – January 15: Application Live

January 16 – February 1: Applications reviewed by Scholarship Selection Task Force

February (final date to be confirmed): Cohort Announced and Mentors identified

March (final date to be confirmed): Program Starts

Who selects the cohort?

The WLI Americas Entrepreneurs Program Sub-Committee. A select group of ULI members who also serve on the WLI Americas Executive Committee.

If I am not selected, can I reapply next year?

Yes, of course. Applications will reopen in November 2025. Winners can only be selected once.

What do I get if I am selected?
  1. Monthly virtual meetings with your personalized Entrepreneur Business Mentors to coach you. Two in-person meetings with your mentors at the Spring & Fall Meetings.
  2. Business webinars to further guide you through your entrepreneurial journey.
  3. ULI Spring & Fall Meeting registration fees covered, along with up to $1000 in travel expenses per meeting.
  4. Exclusive networking opportunities and exposure.
What will the mentors do and what are the expectations for their time?
  1. Each recipient will be matched with mentors based on the challenge that they have identified in their application so that they can work on addressing that challenge through the program.
  2. The aim is to provide a small group of mentors from different disciplines to support the recipient.
  3. The matching process will be based on the applicants and the availability of the mentors to participate.
  4. We are building a roster of potential mentors who will be engaged as the recipients are short-listed.
  5. The mentors will be available to participate at the Spring and Fall Meeting sessions with the full cohort as well as individual meetings once a month (in person if all located in proximity and/or virtual).
