For the low-income residents of Snohomish County, Washington, affordable housing and living wage job skills are a high priority, though not always accessible. HopeWorks Station North provides comprehensive supportive housing, social services for residents, and job re-entry programs within a highly sustainable building built with significant embodied and operational carbon reduction strategies.
Inside the building is a main commercial lobby and café, a centralizing space for art, inspiration, and gathering. Employee on-the-job training programs take place in the Kindred Kitchen café, which is open to the public for breakfast and lunch services and catering. HopeWorks Station North’s upper floors provide 65 units of housing for low-income and those formerly experiencing homelessness in Snohomish County. Units open onto a private central courtyard where residents can relax, converse, access sunlight and fresh air. The tranquil, green space has community gardens and play areas to facilitate outdoor activities for families.
Hopeworks Station North provides critical services while promoting sustainability and a connection to the natural environment. The development is part of the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge Petal Pilot Program for Affordable Housing. The pilot program strives to achieve significant energy reduction, water efficiency, and sustainability goals. Through the provision of a stable home life, HopeWorks Station North creates a healthy, supporting, environmentally friendly space where residents can transform their lives.
