Hannah Hobbs graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded the AIA Henry Adams Medal and Certificate of Merit in 2014 for her completion of a Master of Architecture degree with a focus in Neuroscience for Architecture, from NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego, California. For Hannah’s thesis, she conducted the school’s first scientific study, examining preference of different architectural contours, and co-design-built a semi-immersive virtual reality environment, or “CAVEtte,” to conduct the study. The thesis was accepted to be presented and published at multiple conferences.
Currently, Hannah works at Steinberg Hart, a full-service architectural firm that has been shaping environments and creating inspiring places for over 65 years, through an idea-driven and results-oriented design approach. With a passion for, and education in, Neuroscience for Architecture, and as a WELL Accredited Professional, Hannah focuses on human-centered design bolstering the design dialogue and application for Healthy Buildings throughout the various product sectors of the firm.
Additionally, Hannah serves as a Lecturer at NewSchool of Architecture & Design and San Diego State University, where she teaches courses ranging from research, to neuroscience for architecture, to design studios at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Hannah’s teaching and mentoring approach is much like her own directive in life: own your experiences and ask questions. With this, as Co-Chair of the Women Leadership Initiative, a major goal for Hannah is to help provide a safe and healthy space for inquiry-based engagement, awareness and inclusivity.
