Q1. ULI: So many of us in real estate fall into the industry and hence commercial real estate professional organizations. How did you get involved with ULI?
Jörg Flachowsky (JF): I got introduced by a fellow YLG [Young Leaders Group] member (Anthony Chang) and former Hines colleague while working in their New York office. Still benefiting from that introduction to this day.
Q2. ULI: What is the most interesting project you’ve worked on over your career in real estate?
JF: One World Trade Center/Freedom Tower New York as an architect on the design team. First impressions matter; the people on that project did it to me (in a good way).
Q3. ULI: What are you most excited about regarding the industry’s future?
JF: The ongoing digital disruption at all levels. The hope would be that we get control and time for our creative ideas back and hand over control of the production and data processes to technology and software. Perhaps wishful thinking but we should try.
Q4. ULI: What are you currently reading/watching?
JF: I’m currently reading Multipliers by Liz Wiseman. This is a great eye opener into how to and how not to manage human talent. I’m watching the reruns of all 6 seasons of House of Cards, which catches you with interesting, political chess game strategies to learn/adopt to business and life (not literally).
