POSITION SUMMARY:

The Emerging Trends series—Europe, Americas, Asia Pacific—is one of the longest-running and most visible of all ULI products. It is a trends and forecast publication and is jointly undertaken by ULI, through the Capital Markets Center, and PwC. Management of the process and content is the responsibility of ULI.

For the fifth year in a row, ULI is implementing changes in the process and content and the normally tight timing of the project is now even more so. The process ramps up in late spring/early summer.

The intern would work directly with the Senior Vice President and Senior Associate to carry out supporting tasks for Emerging Trends Americas.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

A key component of the Emerging Trends research is one-on-one recorded interviews carried out by the senior team with property owners and developers, institutional and equity investors/managers, lenders and advisors. A second key component of the Emerging Trends research is the Focus Group program undertaken by the ULI’s District Councils, in which District Council staff bring together local market experts to discuss questions provided by the Emerging Trends team.

  • Help transcribe, summarize and distill the one-on-one interviews, with the goal of identifying new trends and ideas.
  • Help track, organize and summarize the information received from the Focus Groups, with the goals of identifying new trends and ideas.
  • assist in researching data sources, various approaches to analysis and presentation of data, as well as be involved in strategic planning and structuring the process.
  • Additionally, support for other Capital Markets projects may be required, as they arise. Tasks would be similar in nature to those described above.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong project management and research capabilities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders
  • An interest in all aspects of project operations including:
    • Team collaboration
    • Transcription and analysis of ‘live’ interviews
    • Strategic planning
    • Real estate financial and urban issues
    • Data-base development and manipulation
  • Proficiency in Word and a working knowledge of Excel required.

EDUCATION:

  • Strong candidates will be currently enrolled graduate students in real estate, economics, urban planning, or a closely related field.
