In our Infrastructure Forum, hosted by ULI’s Curtis Infrastructure Initiative, we examine the intersection of infrastructure and real estate. For the fall forum, we will discuss how we can realize equitable resilience at the neighborhood scale. Infrastructure demands due to flooding and storms; growing energy and technology demands; as well as lack of adequate access to transportation choices are challenging our cities and towns more than ever. While the financial impact on individual building owners or a new development are daunting, the exorbitant cost of addressing these vulnerabilities at the neighborhood scale, especially at a time when municipal funding is dwindling, has meant many of these vulnerabilities will go un-addressed. When you factor in decades of under-investment in neighborhoods that have experienced systemic racism, the challenge will require a step change in approach.

Our speakers Professor Julian Agyeman and Michelle Moore will comment on how key policies, innovative economic tools, and equitable funding mechanisms are being developed to address resilience at a neighborhood or community scale. In the breakout sessions, we will workshop the following projects:

• Philadelphia, PA: Identifying regulatory recommendations to more effectively achieve equity goals in major transportation infrastructure investments and land use policies.
• San Antonio, TX: Explore innovative and equitable mobility services to maximize transportation tax revenue, reduce vehicle miles traveled and expand first and last mile solutions.
• St Paul, MN: Create consensus in Development Community Benefits through Public, Private, Philanthropic and People (P4) Model for a community land bridge covering I-94.

Key takeaways from each breakout group will then be shared with all participants.
