The coronavirus pandemic has had profound impacts on the ways that commercial buildings are operated and managed. From enhancing indoor air quality with increased ventilation and filtration, to enforcing social distancing regulations and mask requirements, to other changes, building management practices have shifted significantly in a bid to make people feel safer about gathering in indoor spaces. As the pandemic recedes in the United States, it’s time to consider what changes are here to stay, and which are likely to be temporary. Will the coronavirus pandemic lead to a “paradigm shift” in approaches to ventilation and indoor environments?

In addition, the financial impacts of the pandemic on commercial real estate are continuing to unfold. How have rents and vacancy rates been impacted, and what is likely to come?

In this webinar, hear results from a recent ULI survey which took the pulse of building owners and managers about pandemic impacts on operations, finances, and DEI strategies. Speakers will share insights on how the global health emergency is compelling us to reimagine the form and function of buildings, and the impact of covid on core real estate financial metrics.

    Jonathan Bauer

    Sustainability Manager, The Tower Companies

Jonathan is the Sustainability Manager for The Tower Companies—an award winning, nationally recognized sustainable real estate developer, owner, and manager based in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area. Jonathan, an outdoors enthusiast, is so passionate about climate change that he decided to build a career combatting it. After researching in a lab and interning for both the Connecticut and White House Councils on Environmental Quality, he moved into the real estate sector with the Institute for Market Transformation. It was there that he recognized that real estate both contributes significantly to the global climate crisis, and is uniquely situated to address it head-on. So, he got to work effecting change with Tower, where he manages the company’s energy, water, and waste management programs, green building certifications, greenhouse gas inventory, health and wellness strategy, and leads its efforts to educate all staff and tenants on sustainability. During his tenure, he has helped the company save over $9 million in utility costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 10%. Jonathan is a LEED AP O+M as well as a Fitwel Ambassador.
