Doug Lamson
Title: Landscape Architect
Organization: RDG Planning & Design
Location: Denver, Colorado
Doug Lamson enjoys creating iconic community expressions that articulate the specialness of place. Acutely attuned to influences, constraints, and opportunities that exist in the urban context, Doug’s expertise resides at the challenging intersection of infrastructure and aesthetics. Where the street meets the sky, where nature and man are compelled to collide, Doug offers a rich revisualization of possibility based on the history, culture, and context of the community served. A thoughtful listener and pragmatic, solutions-oriented thinker, Doug fills a unique void in the realm of urban planning and design that is often overlooked when absent but very effective when present.
Doug is a project manager and marketer for RDG Planning & Design’s Denver office. Prior to that he founded and led Chroma Design in Boulder, CO for fourteen years. And before Chroma, he spent 24 years in service to world-renowned landscape architecture and urban planning practices Carol R. Johnson Associates of Boston and EDAW of Denver (both subsequently subsumed). He is a landscape architect, licensed in six states, and nationally certified by CLARB. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from the University of Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Idaho. Doug maintains a hands-on role in every project and welcomes creative collaboration with project influencers of every persuasion.
Doug grew up in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and was lured to explore the west at an early age where he found adventure and possibility. He has been married to Ann Lamson for 33 years and has three grown children, two of which live in Brooklyn, NY and one that is close by in Colorado. Doug loves to hike and ski and spends much of his free time outdoors. He has a lasting interest in park and open space design, play, and their associated health benefits. He looks forward to discovering how his work can have a greater impact on the public’s well-being and to sharing this newfound knowledge with clients and colleagues.
