POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director position entails a combination of external relationship building, district council project management, and policy analysis. The Director must demonstrate strong organizational skills, an interest in collaborative exchanges, strong facilitation skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The Director should be familiar with the land use industry, including issues regarding housing, commercial development, and sustainability and resilience.

While the many of efforts and projects will relate to housing and mobility initiatives, the Director must be willing to work broadly toward ULI’s mission, specifically in the priority areas of regional economic competitiveness.

The Director should anticipate a return to an office environment in 2022 for at least some portion of the work week once it is safe to return to the office in person.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage key relationships associated with like-minded organizations, content partners, editorial advisers, and internal and external ULI constituencies, while staying in close collaboration with the Executive Director and member leaders.
• Develop a work plan to integrate ULI content and member resources with policy initiatives and coalition work.
• Convene public- and private-sector leaders in exchange forums.
• Identify opportunities to leverage content and cross-market across the ULI network, including other centers and initiatives.
• Support members in developing content-related policies initiatives and projects.
• Work closely with member leaders to connect ULI content to local product councils (LPCs) and leverage the work of LPCs to the broader membership and Institute.
• Represent the district council in external meetings and events.
• Write clear and actionable summaries of research for nonacademic audiences.
• Review and post the “news roundup,” including sourcing, writing, or editing news summaries, as needed.
• Develop concepts for specialty content, such as infographics, videos, and interactive features.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s and graduate degree preferred, with coursework in urban planning, public administration, urban policy, real estate development, sociology, economics, geography, or comparable fields.
• Or six to eight years of related experience.
• General knowledge of and passion for housing policy, urban planning, commercial real estate development, and land use issues.
• Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing for a variety of platforms, such as research reports, newsletters, and online publications.
• Experience facilitating meetings in person or virtually preferred.
• The ability to prioritize and manage several projects at once.
• Knowledge of information visualization tools preferred.
• Aptitude with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to attend early morning or evening events as needed; and
• Travel to two to three events outside New England a year.
