David Brower Center and Oxford Plaza are two spaces that aim to unite the themes of social justice, sustainability, and urban renewal. As a mixed-use complex, this project provides a venue for innovation in Berkeley, California.
The project includes:
- 29,000 square feet of office space, and tenants include organizations working for environmental and social justice;
- a 7,000-square-foot conference center, which comprises a 180-seat theater, gallery space, and conference and event facilities;
- a highly successful organic restaurant;
- 8,500 square feet of commercial space;
- 97 affordable apartment units;
- 40 residential parking spaces and bike storage; and
- a 100-stall, below-grade public parking garage.
The project provides housing to low-income families and access to employment in the transit-rich downtown. In addition, the David Brower Center achieved a LEED Platinum rating through the building’s energy, thermal, and daylighting performance. These spaces have also reinvigorated the neighborhood by attracting businesses to the development and the surrounding area.
