Member Programs and Opportunities
One of the many things that set the ULI District Councils apart from other professional groups is the access to innovative leadership opportunities and programs. ULI members can join leadership committees, take part in leadership programs, and/or become a mentor in one of our many initiatives. Inquire about member programs and opportunities through our membership network in ULI Navigator.
Center for Leadership
Several District Councils operate a Center for Leadership as a way to cultivate leaders in the industry, community, and ULI. Many graduates cite the program as having given them the knowledge, skills, network, and confidence to take on a more significant role professionally or even to start their own firm. The Center for Leadership acts as a microcosm for community change, illustrating how impact is made possible when diverse groups collaborate.
In a competitive process, each program selects 25–30 participants annually to attend monthly programs through which their leadership skills are strengthened as they gain a deeper understanding of the interconnected facets of real estate and land use. Nationwide, more than 1,000 graduates of the program oversee curriculum development and class recruitment.
Participants are midcareer professionals (ages 30 to 50) who demonstrate leadership both professionally and within their community and are poised for an even larger role. They engage in discussions led by senior members of the industry, interactive exercises, personal leadership facilitations, a mini-TAP project, and networking.
UrbanPlan
UrbanPlan is a realistic, engaging exercise in which participants—high school students, university students, or public officials—learn the fundamental forces that affect development in communities. Participants gain experience with the challenging issues, private and public sector roles, complex tradeoffs, and fundamental economics involved in proposing realistic land use solutions to vexing growth challenges.
