This Advisory Services panel provided recommendations to Toa Baja, Puerto Rico on enhancing recovery efforts after the catastrophic and deadly 2017 Hurricane Maria. The panelists provided recommendations to aid short- and long-term economic growth and resilient development.

The panel addressed how Toa Baja can leverage competitive advantages and economic drivers at regional, commonwealth, and national levels, and determined how Toa Baja can be more prepared for extreme weather events and enhance resilience through investments, partnerships, and land development processes.

The City of Miami and the Miami Downtown Development Authority asked an Advisory Services panel to provide recommendations for addressing waterfront resilience and mitigating the effects of sea level rise along Biscayne Bay and the Miami River.

The panel focused on design, finance, policy and implementation. The panel came up with strategic, independent recommendations that take a holistic approach to resilience for the urban waterfront with specific recommendations around waterfront design guidelines, infrastructure finance, community engagement, and leveraging past plans and studies into actions moving forward.

An advisory services panel made recommendations to the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) on the real estate industry’s role in achieving Washington, D.C.’s sustainability goals, and on how the goals can be leveraged to generate real estate value and boost economic growth in the city’s downtown.

The panel of ULI representatives sought to build on the progress the city has already made in the area of sustainable building and operations practices. With 75 percent of the District’s greenhouse gas emissions resulting from energy use by buildings, the city has focused on building energy management, leading the nation in the number of Energy Star labeled buildings, LEED certifications per capita, square footage of installed green roofs, and in clean power purchase agreements.
