IT Administrator/Manager


The IT Administrator/Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the leading-edge information technology environment at ULI. The IT Administrator/Manager manages the Core IT Team in support of the Institute’s operations at ULI-HQ in Washington, D.C., and at regional offices around the world. The position ensures timely and high-quality help desk operations and end-user support. The IT Administrator/Manager performs network design and implementation and takes appropriate measures to ensure the security of ULI’s IT environment.

This is a full-time, exempt position located in Washington, D.C., reporting to the SVP of Information Technology.



  • Responsible for ensuring delivery of IT services provided by ULI, service providers, and cloud partners.
  • Partner with other departments across ULI to understand their technology needs and make recommendations on technology solutions.
  • Work as a project manager as assigned. Understand business operational requirements and ensure projects meet objectives of scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Monitor and maintain network security. Responsible for updating patches and making configuration changes consistent with industry recommendations. Collaborates with auditors during security audits and ensures remediation recommendations are addressed.
  • Planning, design, documentation, and optimization of the ULI WAN and LAN.
  • Develop strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies.
  • Plan and recommend network hardware/software, network management software, performance monitoring and quality of service infrastructure, architecture capacity improvements and cost optimizing solutions.
  • Approve and modify network design and architecture to ensure compliance with both ULI requirements and industry best practices.
  • Perform periodic preventive maintenance; manage backup and disaster recovery strategy according to departmental policy.
  • Monitor network performance, ensure capacity planning is performed. Assess and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform troubleshooting procedures and design resolution scripts.
  • Perform detailed analysis of packet captures to determine network and application performance.
  • Configure and maintain network infrastructure including cabling, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless.
  • Research and test software/hardware for compatibility with existing or planned systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend new products, maintain knowledge of emerging technologies for use with ULI.
  • Administer and manage computer help desk by monitoring and responding to requests, analyzing requirements, determining priority and schedule, documenting solutions, reporting emergencies.
  • Develop and report metrics on network health and security status.
  • Solve user software problems and provide one-on-one informal training to staff when required.|


  • At least seven years of experience in information technology.
  • Proven leadership managing project teams or direct reports.
  • Ability to explain technical information to nontechnical staff.
  • Must have advanced skill:
    • Supporting application and account federation using single sign-on (SSO) to Azure AD.
    • Supporting financial management systems such as Great Plains.
    • Supporting CRM or association management software such as netFORUM or Dynamics CRM.
    • Managing help desk software such as Zendesk.
    • Supporting a mixed Windows and Mac environment.
    • Configuring and monitoring backup processes.
    • Designing and maintaining endpoint malware protection.
    • Designing and supporting VOIP telephony.
    • Managing projects (resources, schedule, scope, budget).
  • Must be proficient in the following technologies:
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Microsoft Azure AD and Active Directory
    • Microsoft Office 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, One Drive for Business)
    • HyperV virtualization
    • Windows Server 2012/2016
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2012
    • Cisco networking


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Additional relevant certifications, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, preferred.
