Graphic Designer

POSITION SUMMARY: The Urban Land Institute (ULI), the oldest and largest network of cross-disciplinary real estate and land use experts in the world, is looking for a Graphic Designer to help bring our mission—shaping the future of the industry, and creating thriving communities around the globe—to life. This individual will be responsible for working with our Art Director and freelance collaborators to execute design for diverse end products (digital, print, environmental, and multimedia), serving internal clients across the organization and around the world. The person hired for this role will be part of a team responsible for establishing best practices across the organization for on-brand communications and visual design.

The position is full-time, exempt, and located in Washington, D.C. It reports to the Art Director.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with internal clients including, but not limited to, the Membership, Member Engagement, Digital Marketing, Content, and Editorial teams to execute informative and engaging design end products.
  • Create on-brand graphic presentations that communicate mood, emphasis, insight, viewpoint, and similar visual impressions, and interpretive themes that convey ideas and information clearly.
  • Evolve, support, and maintain network design and branding across all creative, editorial, and digital end products.
  • Conceive, design, lay out, and coordinate editorial illustrations and creative artwork for program collateral such as magazines, brochures, displays, and posters, translating facts and features of subject material into graphic terms that best convey intended meaning.
  • Advocate for strong design across media and “customer first” approaches to experience design and delivery.
  • Enforce brand guidelines in letter and spirit through correct application and guidance to third parties.
  • Keep current concerning ever-evolving best practices in design approaches, techniques, and tool sets.
  • Assist with organizing the flow of the incoming design requests that arrive through multiple communication channels.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in design or advertising.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Demonstrated problem-solver and strong graphic layout designer.
  • Experience with contemporary data visualization tools (D3, PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, Spotfire, R [ggplot], Python [madplotlib], or similar) a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML 5, CSS, and social media is a plus.
  • Experience with photography and videography is a plus.
  • Experience with experiential/environmental design and/or multimedia a plus.
  • Experience working with a membership association, agency experience, and business-to-business client experience are all a plus.
