Associate, ULI Northwest


ULI Northwest is searching for a member to join our small team of highly energetic professionals. Our creative work group is the productive force behind an array of programs and initiatives in real estate development and land use in the Pacific Northwest. As the local district council of the Urban Land Institute, we carry forth ULI’s mission to connect the global real estate community.

The Associate is a professional position within the district council. As an integral part of the district council team, the Associate serves as a liaison among ULI headquarters, the district council, and ULI Northwest real estate and land use professionals. Often the Associate is the face of ULI Northwest, providing assistance and information, so it is imperative that the Associate is friendly, professional, and an informed resource about ULI. The Associate travels to ULI events throughout Washington state and Oregon and occasionally works early mornings and evenings for events. Some national and global travel occurs as well. The Associate will be a daily point of contact for all team members across the region.

The Associate serves as an informed resource for ULI’s Northwest’s operations, as well as some of the district council’s content-focused committees. The Associate will support the executive director and manager to ensure that all committee work is consistent with ULI’s policies and procedures and that the district council’s goals and objectives are met. The strongest candidate will be a highly organized, energetic “people person” able to multitask effectively with responsible follow-through.


The Associate’s overall responsibility is to provide support for programs and initiatives that support the district council and facilitate the district council’s goals and objectives. This entails working closely with the executive director, managers, project employees, advisory board, and other committee members to execute regional programming and events.

Committee Support

  • Support committees by sending meeting notices, tracking RSVPs, updating committee lists, assisting with recruiting and retaining volunteers, and preparing for committee meetings
  • Work with committees to ensure that individual assignments are accomplished between committee meetings
  • Attend advisory board and committee meetings, and disseminate notes to committee members and ULI staff
  • Assist committees in producing and implementing their annual plans

Program and Event Management

  • Manage logistical aspects of planning and implementing regional and statewide programs
  • Assist with producing and distributing marketing materials that promote upcoming district council events
  • Prepare event collateral and presentation materials (i.e., agendas, speaker bios, PowerPoint slide shows)
  • Keep a list of potential member volunteers and manage volunteer assignments to support events


  • Produce email announcements for the district council
  • Produce and regularly update other marketing materials, including website and program flyers
  • Keep abreast of and master new communication technology, software, and social media and assist with implementation (e.g., networking websites, digital video editing, etc.)

Leadership Support

  • Assist in developing and implementing community outreach initiatives aligned with the ULI mission and district council’s strategic plan

Administrative Support

  • Receive and answer phone/email inquiries from district council members and prospects
  • Access records from ULI’s database to generate labels, reports, meeting rosters, badges, invoices, etc.
  • Perform various administrative duties and special projects as required as part of the district council team
  • Direct daily work with member firms, vendors, and consultants


  • 1 to 3 years of related experience, preferably in real estate, land use, or related field
  • Professional oral and written communication skills, including exceptional spelling and grammar
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills in order to work with senior executives in the private and public sectors
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to initiate tasks and assume responsibility, and to work with minimal supervision in a high-production position
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple tasks concurrently and completely, and complete tasks on time, with responsible follow-through
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic pdf file manipulation; minimum 60 words per minute keyboard skills
  • Ability to attend early morning and evening events, and events in other cities across the region and North America
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle or ability to rent a vehicle
  • Ability to lift 30-pound boxes during event preparation and set-up
  • Previous experience in event management preferred
  • Previous experience in volunteer coordination and/or committee facilitation preferred
  • Ability to produce collateral material of a professional quality by using Adobe InDesign or similar software program preferred
  • Some travel opportunities available 1 to 2 times a year.
