Organization: City of Santa, Rosa
Location: Santa Rosa, CA
Beatriz Guerrero Auna is currently working as Equity and Public Health Senior Planner at the City of Santa Rosa. Before that, she worked for the Planning Department at the City of Richmond developing and implementing community outreach with vulnerable populations while she studied her Master of City Planning at the University of California, Berkeley. She concentrated her research and classes on Environmental Planning and Healthy Cities. During her time at UC Berkeley, she worked as a Graduate Student Instructor teaching the graduate course Healthy Cities and two other undergraduate courses Urban and Community Health and Introduction to Culture and Natural Resource Management. For her research at the Institute of Urban and Regional Development, she focused on health equity, Health in All Policies (HiAP), and chronic diseases.
Beatriz is a proud Mexican woman born and raised in Mexico City. She studied Political Science as an undergraduate and specialized in Gender Studies. She worked for more than 10 years for the federal government and the local government of Mexico City in planning and public policy implementation. During her last job at Mexican Institute for Social Security, she realized that public health programs required a city planning component to improve life quality, health and heath equity through a more integral interpretation of health policy. This was the reason that took her back to graduate school, specifically in California, where the first state-level initiative of Health in all Polices in the United States has been implemented.
She loves good food, time with friends, biking, meditation, and her cat, Nash.
