Location: Mexico City, Mexico
Developer: BBVA Bancomer
Designer: Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM)
Site Size: 1.67 acres
Located in the former industrial district of the Parques Polanco neighborhood, the BBVA Bancomer Operations Center provides a key commercial anchor to the revitalized neighborhood’s mixed-use master plan. A sustainable design, the use of high performance systems and materials, and an inventive interior design highlight the BBVA Bancomer Operations Center as an example of the work environment of the 21st century. The project incorporates 745,217.81 sq. ft. of office space and 8,449.67 sq. ft. of retail space, with 16,145.87 sq. ft. of at grade open space and 13,993.08 sq. ft. of elevated terraces
SOM’s design accommodates the transformation of the company’s operational structure from a traditional, hierarchical model to a more horizontal, collaborative organization. With open offices and shared interactive spaces, the building provides opportunities for informal meetings and collaboration. The BBVA Bancomer Operations Center is conceived as a “vertical city”, filled with amenities including cafeterias, lounges, outdoor terraces, and meeting spaces in order to reinforce a sense of community among the employees. The construction of the project is the final step toward BBVA Bancomer consolidating their operations into a single location in order to reduce operating costs and improve internal business workflow.
The building is anticipated to receive LEED Gold certification with a host of energy- and water-saving features. Sunlight-shading screens and high performance glass is designed to maximize daylight and decreasing the reliance on artificial light. Power redundancy features will minimize the effect of occasional power outages in the region as well. The interior design is situated in a way which creates a healthy interior work environment with ample access to green outdoor spaces, including rooftop terraces for working or lounging.
