Associate, Awards and ULI Learning
This is a hybrid, full-time, exempt position, based in Washington, DC. This position is also open to remote candidates.
The Urban Land Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members, with a mission to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide. Founded in 1936, the Institute has more than 47,000 members worldwide representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines working in private enterprise and public service.
ULI district councils deliver the Institute’s mission at the local level by providing members with education, networking, and opportunities to make an impact in their local community. With over 2,500 members in New York, ULI New York (ULI NY) is the Institute’s largest district council and is the preeminent local organization focused on building more sustainable and equitable communities throughout the New York region.
ULI NY currently is supported by a close-knit and high-performing team of four full-time staff. Our team works directly with our members, who include high-level business professionals, public officials, corporate executives, and senior members of the real estate and land use community, to help facilitate and move the needle on issues that are of the most importance to ULI NY.
The Associate is a professional position within the district council. As an integral part of the district council team, the Associate serves as a professional liaison between the district council, ULI headquarters, and New York real estate, planning and development professionals. The Associate is one of the faces of the district council – members call them first for assistance and information, so it is imperative that the Associate be courteous and friendly. The position necessitates the Associate be able to travel occasionally to district council events throughout the area and attend meetings, events or programs in the early mornings or evenings.
The Associate serves as an informed resource for ULI NY’s operations, as well as some of the district council’s content-focused committees. The position offers the opportunity to be creative, to innovate, and to contribute to the content development of more than 30 programs per year. The Associate will support the Executive Director and district council staff to ensure that all committee work is consistent with ULI’s policies and procedures and that the district council’s goals and objectives are met. Strong candidates for this position will be highly organized, detail-oriented, personable, and able to multi-task effectively with responsible follow-through.
The ULI NY team is currently working in a hybrid environment, with employees spending three days a week in person at our midtown Manhattan office and two days a week working remotely. Attendance in person at our office and at events will be required. All ULI staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The Associate’s overall responsibility is to support programs and initiatives that support the district council and facilitate the district council’s goals and objectives. This entails working closely with the Executive Director, district council staff, project consultants, the Advisory Board, and other committee members to execute programs, events, and member engagement initiatives, including our annual Get Involved member recruitment drive and our public sector engagement strategy.
Affinity Group Networks:
The Associate will coordinate the activities of ULI NY’s three affinity groups: NEXT New York (NEXT), a 35- to 45-year-old cohort representing diverse industry and community perspectives; the Young Leaders Group (YLG), which is all ULI NY members under the age of 35; and, the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI), open to all members who identify as female.
