WASHINGTON (May 14, 2024) – Today, the Urban Land Institute (ULI) announced 18 finalists for the 2024 ULI Americas Awards for Excellence, one of the most prestigious awards programs in the real estate industry. This year’s finalists include 16 developments in the United States and two in Canada. Two additional projects from the United States received special mentions.
“This year’s submissions represented a broad portfolio of work, showcasing a diverse range of projects driven by creativity and ambition,” said Doug Voigt, a Partner at SOM Chicago and the 2024 Chair of the ULI Americas Awards for Excellence jury. “Innovation in housing design was a recurrent theme and one that directly addresses the current affordable housing crisis. The projects honored this year resonate with the ULI’s core mission to exemplify the transformative potential of design and development in building more sustainable communities.”

The ULI Americas Awards for Excellence program evaluates projects across a number of factors, including achievements in marketplace acceptance, design, planning, technology, amenities, economic impact, management, community engagement, innovation, and sustainability. The program is open to projects in the ULI Americas region that are substantially complete, financially viable, and in operation.
ULI Americas Awards for Excellence finalists were selected by a multidisciplinary jury of ULI members, including experts in development, finance, planning, urban design, architecture, and landscape architecture. In addition to Voigt, the 2024 jury includes Nathalie Beauvais, climate resiliency lead/architecture & planning, HDR, Inc., Boston, Mass.; Lisa Cholmondeley, principal, Gensler, Washington, District of Columbia; Michael Cochran, strategic advisor , Eastdil Secured, New York, N.Y.; David DeVos, former global head of ESG, LaSalle Investment Management, Chicago, Ill.; Allen Folks, principal, Folks Planning , Sacramento, Calif.; Lucia Garsys, Advisor Planning and Infrastructure, Ret., Tampa, Fl.; Derek Goring, chief executive officer, Northcrest Developments, Toronto, Ontario; Nicole Horst, principal partner, landscape architect, Wenk Associates, Inc. The Awards for Excellence program, established in 1979 and subsequently expanded globally, is the centerpiece of ULI’s efforts to identify and promote best practices in all types of real estate development.
