WASHINGTON (December 21, 2010) – Alazne (Ali) Solis, a widely renowned housing policy expert who specializes in the area of affordable housing and sustainable community development, has joined the National Advisory Board of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Terwilliger Center for Workforce Housing, the Center announced today.

The ULI Terwilliger Center, established in 2007 by former ULI Chairman J. Ronald Terwilliger, supports the development of housing affordable to moderate-income workers, including teachers, nurses, firefighters, government workers, and police officers. Terwilliger, chairman emeritus of Trammell Crow Residential, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, committed $5 million to the creation of the Center.

Solis is senior vice president of public policy and corporate affairs for the Columbia, MD-based Enterprise Community Partners, Inc. In that position, she develops and advocates policies to advance the development of affordable housing and sustainable communities with the administration, Congress, state and local policy stakeholders and other national industry partners. She also oversees Enterprise’s internal and external communications and marketing functions.

“I am delighted that Ali is offering her extensive housing and financial expertise to help guide the Center’s program of work,” said Terwilliger, who serves as chairman of the Center’s National Advisory Board. “In communities nationwide, moderate-income working families are being pushed farther and farther away from employment centers, adding to traffic congestion, air pollution and sprawl. With this Center, we are aiming to turn this situation around. Our goal is to achieve a measurable increase in mixed-income workforce housing in communities across the nation. With guidance from Ali and the other dedicated individuals on our Advisory Board, I have high hopes for what the Center can accomplish.”

The National Advisory Board guides the Center’s program of work, which is to identify barriers to workforce housing production and eliminate those barriers by raising awareness of the affordability gap and by advocating changes in public policy.
