WASHINGTON (April 13, 2021)- The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has received the 2021 ENERGY STAR^® Partner of the Year Award for its efforts in promoting energy efficient and sustainable buildings, and for its thought leadership on energy conservation throughout the real estate sector. The Urban Land Institute is a global, member-driven organization comprising more than 45,000 real estate and urban development professionals dedicated to advancing the Institute’s mission of shaping the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.

This award recognizes ENERGY STAR^® partner businesses and organizations in good standing that demonstrate superior leadership, innovation, and commitment to environmental protection through energy efficiency.

ULI promoted myriad facets of ENERGY STAR^® to its 40,000+ U.S. real estate members in 2020 regarding tenant fit-outs, city benchmarking, and class B/C offices via reports, articles, and webinars, including:

• Increasing the body of work on energy efficient tenant fit-outs through ULI’s Tenant Energy Optimization Program (TEOP), which relies on and aligns with ENERGY STAR^® Tenant Spaces, ENERGY STAR^® Portfolio Manager, and ENERGY STAR^® certified products;
• Educating the Class B/C office market on the hidden value of energy efficiency in their buildings by publishing reports that highlight ENERGY STAR^® resources for the Class B/C audience; and
• Incorporating ENERGY STAR^® highlights into many ULI reports, including the “Greenprint Volume 11 Performance Report,” the “ULI Blueprint for Green Real Estate”, “Decarbonizing the Built Environment: 10 Principles for Climate Mitigation Policies,” “Unlocking Hidden Value in Class B/C Offices,” and four TEOP resources for Multifamily, Architects, Net Zero, and ENERGY STAR^® Tenant Spaces, among other measures.

ULI also congratulates its Greenprint members who received the award: Boston Properties, CommonWealth Partners, Hudson Pacific Properties, Jamestown, Kilroy Realty Corporation, LaSalle Investment Management, LBA Realty, Nuveen, SL Green, and Tishman Speyer.

The Greenprint Center for Building Performance is part of ULI’s research arm focused on climate mitigation, making the business case for green buildings by tying reductions in carbon emissions to increases in asset value.
