About 1315 Peachtree
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Developer: 1315 Peachtree LLC
Designer: Perkins+Will Integrated Design Team
Size: 78,956 square feet
Located in the heart of Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood, 1315 Peachtree is a small project that addresses a big problem: vacant, underused, and inefficient existing buildings in urban cores.
It is an adaptive use of a 1985 structure transformed into a high-performance, civic-focused building. The new edifice houses a branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System and introduces a new street-level tenant space for the Museum of Design Atlanta. The Perkins+Will Atlanta office occupies the top four floors. The building was purchased and renovated by the interdisciplinary design firms to create a living lab, reflecting Perkins+Will’s environmental commitment to colleagues, clients, and community. It demonstrates an ongoing pursuit of design excellence and its value to society.
When certified in 2012, this project earned the highest-scoring LEED NC 2009 Platinum certification in the world, while meeting the carbon reduction goals established by the 2030 Challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These redesigned building systems resulted in a 54 percent reduction in energy costs and a 68 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, providing a clean, healthy environment.
