1221 Broadway, designed as an urban-living compound, has served as a catalyst for nearby urban redevelopment. Located 1.5 miles from downtown San Antonio in the city’s new River North cultural arts district, this adaptive-use project transformed the concrete superstructure of an abandoned housing development. Occupying three city blocks, the four-story project includes 308 loft apartments organized around five courtyards.

All circulation is outdoors on single-loaded cantilevered walkways linked by bridges over Avenue B and alleys to the five-story garage. The connection to the five courtyards and to the outdoors creates both a unique oasis and an urbane street presence. There are 28 unit types, including studios and one- and two-bedroom lofts. A bike-share station, River Walk access, and restaurants and entertainment within walking distance further enhance this vibrant urban-living project.
